福音箇所 ヨハネ 20･1-9
週の初めの日、朝早く、まだ暗いうちに、マグダラのマリアは墓に行った。そして、墓から石が取りのけてあるのを見た。そこで、シモン・ペトロのところへ、また、イエスが愛しておられたもう一人の弟子のところへ走って行って彼らに告げた。「主が墓から取り去られました。どこに置かれているのか、わたしたちには分かりません。」そこで、ペトロとそのもう一人の弟子は、外に出て墓へ行った。二人は一緒に走ったが、もう一人の弟子の方が、ペトロより速く走って、先に墓に着いた。身をかがめて中をのぞくと、亜麻布が置いてあった。しかし、彼は中には入らなかった。続いて、シモン・ペトロも着いた。彼は墓に入り、亜麻布が置いてあるのを見た。イエスの頭を包んでいた覆いは、亜麻布と同じ所には置いてなく、離れた所に丸めてあった。それから、先に墓に着いたもう一人の弟子も入って来て、見て、信じた。イエスは必ず死者の中から復活されることになっているという聖書の言葉を、二人はまだ理解していなかったのである。

「桜、空の墓、そしてご復活」
魅惑的なピンクがかった白い桜は、イースターの時期に眺めると本当に素晴らしい。桜を見ると、心が温まり、希望が湧いてくる。それはたった1週間か2週間しか続かないかもしれないが、その短い期間の中に希望と喜びをもたらしてくれる。日本人が花見に行き、桜を眺めるとき、それは単に花を見ているのではなく、桜が見る人の心に希望と喜びをもたらすのだと私は信じたい。
今日の福音書に登場する空の墓は、イエスの復活を静かに証言しているように見えるかもしれない。しかし、そこから何世紀にもわたって響き渡るメッセージが生まれるのだ。イエスは確かに復活し、真にキリストであり、私たちの心の救い主である。
空っぽの墓は、その静寂の中で、マグダラのマリアと弟子たちに語りかけた。最初は、ただの空間しか見えなかった。彼らはおそらく複雑な考えや感情を抱いていたのだろう- 心配？驚いた？しかし最後になると、先に墓に着いていたもう一人の弟子も中に入った。彼は見て信じた、そして、彼らは皆信じていたのではなかったのか？
弟子たちにとって、ただの空っぽの墓は、永遠の喜びと命の源となった。弟子たちは、言葉では完全に説明できない希望を抱き、それが激しい迫害を乗り越える支えとなり、キリストの復活を証言する力となった。復活したイエス・キリストは、永遠の希望と喜びをもたらす。
私のような司祭にとって、単なる空の墓は、今や神の民と私がミサを捧げ、キリスト・イエスにおける神の愛を思い起こす聖なる空間の一部となるのです。
もうすぐ桜が咲くのを楽しみにしています。桜をじっと見つめ、そこに神が私、全人類、そして創造物すべてに注いでいる、絶え間なく変わることのない愛を感じ取りたいと思っています。神は御子を通して、ご自身を捧げられた。今、桜を眺めていると、喜び、平和、愛といった精神的な瞬間が訪れます。そして私は復活したキリストを目にする。
“The Sakura, The Empty Tomb, and The Resurrection”
The captivating pinkish-white Sakura are wonderful to behold during Easter. When one sees the Sakura, it touches the heart and brings hope. It may last only a week or two, but within that short time, it brings hope and joy. I am willing to believe that when the Japanese go to hanami (flower-seeing), and gaze at the Sakura, it is not simply looking at a flower, but that the Sakura brings forth hope and joy into the heart of the beholder.
The empty tomb in today’s Gospel may seem a silent witness to the resurrection of Jesus. But from it comes a message that echoes through the centuries. That Jesus is truly risen, and He is truly the Christ, the Savior of our hearts.
The empty tomb, in its silence, spoke to Mary Magdalene and the disciples. At first, they only saw a space. They probably had mixed thoughts and feelings – worried, surprised? Yet towards the end, the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed, and didn’t they all believe?
For the disciples, a mere empty tomb became the source of eternal joy and life. The disciples experienced a hope they could not fully explain, which sustained them through intense persecution and enabled them to bear witness to the resurrection. Jesus Christ, risen, brings forth that eternal Hope and Joy.
For a priest like me, a mere empty tomb becomes now a part of the sacred space where God’s people and I celebrate Mass and remember God’s love in Christ Jesus.
I am looking forward to seeing the Sakura soon and want to gaze at it and behold in it God’s continuing, everlasting, unchanging love for me, all of humanity, and creation. Through His Son, He offered Himself. As I gaze at a Sakura now, it brings me to a spiritual moment of joy, peace, and love, and I behold the Resurrected Christ.
